ABSTRACT

Cytospora is a genus including important phytopathogens causing severe dieback and canker diseases distributed worldwide with a wide host range. However, identification of Cytospora species is difficult since the currently available DNA sequence data are insufficient. Aside the limited availability of ex-type sequence data, most of the genetic work is only based on the ITS region DNA marker which lacks the resolution to delineate to the species level in Cytospora. In this study, three fresh strains were isolated from the symptomatic branches of Elaeagnus angustifolia in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. Morphological observation and multi-locus phylogenetic analyses (ITS, LSU, ACT and RPB2) support these specimens are best accommodated as a distinct novel species of Cytospora. Cytospora elaeagnicola sp. nov. is introduced, having discoid, nearly flat, pycnidial conidiomata with hyaline, allantoid conidia, and differs from its relatives genetically and by host association.

ABSTRACT

Objective The study reviewed the exchanges and the outcome of the research cooperation of the platform of the Beijing International Cooperation Base for Science and Technology (ICBST),to explore a combined mode of internationalized research management of "base","talents" and "projects".Methods To analyze the outcomes of talents programs, international research cooperation projects and publications with the support of the Beijing ICBST.Results The establishment of BICBST has nurtured research talents to develop international vision, facilitated project-oriented international research cooperation, and encouraged high level research publication and grants. Conclusions ICBST is of great significance for the implementation of international research cooperation, which brought in more resources, cultivated a group of creative research talents, and broadened the channels for international collaborations and achieved capacity and influence of international competitiveness.

ABSTRACT

Objective To understand and analyze the effect and impact on Hospital-level Young Scholar Scientific Research Program in personal training and project promoting. Methods To review and analyze the archived documents and data materials of total 402 Young Scholar Scientific Research Program involving 339 young fellows from 2003 to 2013,compared the research input and output with general hospital level, including getting new fund, publications,Awards and patent. Results Output on researchers with Young Scholar Scientific Research Program is much higher than the general hospital level, but showing unbalanced distribution in medical disciplines. Conclusions To establishment of Young Scholar Scientific Research Program has achieved very good effect in promoting research in tertiary public hospital as well as has empowered the young fellows for conducting scientific research independently. It is proposed to go on strength the scientific management and optimize the system construction of research input, further establishing academic communication platform for young fellows.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the relation between diabetic rat encephalopathy and hippocampal apoptosis, and the therapeutic effect and mechanism of Ginkgo biloba extract. Methods Sixty rats were assigned into control group(NC), diabetic encephalopathy group (DM+B) and EGb-treatment group (EGb) randomly, and every group was further divided into two time points of 1 month (NC_1 ,DM+B_1, EGb_1 ) and 3 month(NC_3 ,DM+B_3, EGb_3 ). The behavioral abnormalities were investigated by water maze test and the apoptosis levels of brain tissue by ELISA. Immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR were performed to determine the protein and mRNA expressions of Bcl-2 and Bax. Results (1) Mild dysfunction of learning and memory was detected in DM+B_1 group, and the dysfunction became worse in DM+B_3 group. The matters were greatly improved in EGb-treatment groups. (2) The expressions of Bcl-2 protein and mRNA were increased in DM+B_1 and DM+B_3 groups, and were stronger in EGb_1 and EGb_3 groups. (3) The expressions of Bax protein and mRNA were obviously increased in DM+B_1 and DM+B_3 groups, and were dramatically reduced in EGb_1 and EGb_3 groups. (4) Compared with control group, the apoptosis level of brain tissue was increased in DM+B_1 group, and obviously greater in DM+B_3 group. In the EGb-treatment groups the levels were dramatically reduced. Conclusions Diabetic encephalopathy may be closely related to hippocampal apoptosis. EGb has an protective effect and the mechanism may be attributed to its effects inhibiting apoptosis.
